Game Overview

LumenTale: Memories of Trey is a monster-collector RPG from Beehive Game Studios, published by Team17. You play as Trey, an amnesiac cyborg who becomes a Lumen - elite trainers who bond with multiple mystical creatures called Animon across the continent of Talea.

The game blends Pokémon-style exploration and collection with deeper JRPG combat: 4v4 turn-based battles, shared Skill Points (SP), Tactical Points (TP) for bonus actions, and a typing system that deliberately breaks the usual global type chart. Around 140 Animon species span 13 elemental types, with crafting, cooking, trading, and Anispace customization rounding out the loop.

Story & Setting

Talea was once unified under an Emperor, but civil war split the continent into Logos (north, technology) and Mythos (south, tradition). The Lumen rose as provincial guardians protecting people and Animon alike. Trey awakens with no memory, feels an instant connection to the Holoken capture device, and sets out to challenge Captains while uncovering who he really is.

  • 140+ Animon species with 13 elemental types
  • Party of 6, field battles up to 4v4 or 1v1 duels
  • Choose Logos or Mythos after the tutorial - both fully explorable
  • Three trading methods, shiny Bilia variants, and collectible cards
  • Fountain crafting, Anispace training, and multiplayer trading

Starter Animon Guide

After the tutorial you choose one of five starter Animon. Each offers a different early-game tempo. There is no permanently "wrong" pick - all five can carry a first playthrough if you learn their SP costs and type matchups.

03

Combat Basics

Battles are turn-based. Wild encounters start by touching Animon in the field or using your Holoken. Most field fights deploy four Animon per side; story duels and certain Captains may use 1v1 formats instead.

  1. Select up to four Animon from your party of six before engaging.
  2. Each turn, all active Animon share one SP pool - plan who acts first.
  3. Use Scan on unknown species to reveal weaknesses (costs a turn).
  4. Hit weaknesses or land crits to build TP toward a free bonus action.
  5. Swap bench Animon when HP or type matchups turn against you.

Speed stats determine action order within a turn. Support skills that heal or buff the whole field are especially valuable in 4v4 because they affect more allies per SP spent.

04

SP & TP System

Skill Points (SP) refill each turn and are shared across every Animon on the field. Powerful moves drain the pool fast - if your first two Animon spend 80% of SP, your remaining two may be unable to act that turn.

ResourceHow It WorksStrategy Tip
SPShared pool per turn; skills cost SPBalance heavy hitters with low-cost finishers
TPEarned from crits and weakness hitsBuild toward free TP Actions
TP ActionFree attack when TP meter fillsMeter size = Animon count on field

Team Size Trade-off

Larger teams (4 Animon) share SP four ways but need more TP points to trigger a TP Action. Smaller teams (1-2 Animon) have tighter SP but fill TP faster - ideal for burst strategies. Adjust field count per fight rather than always defaulting to four.

05

13 Elemental Types

Animon have 13 elemental types including Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ice, Geo, Aura, Data, Virus, Demon, Anomalous, Chakra, and Ancient. Unlike Pokémon, there is NO universal type chart - each species has its own weakness and resistance set.

Some species also roll a hidden secondary type (e.g., Virus + Demon). Holoken field abilities unlock per primary type as you progress - Geo breaks boulders, Aura powers fans, and so on.

01

Grass / Water / Fire

Role:

Details:
Standard typings with varied species weaknesses

Tips: Still scan - no universal chart

02

Electric / Ice / Geo

Role:
Terrain & burst
Details:
Geo breaks boulders; Electric strong burst

Tips: Keep one Geo-type for exploration

03

Aura / Data / Virus

Role:
Utility types
Details:

Tips: Unlock Holoken powers through story

04

Demon / Anomalous

Role:

Tips: Always Scan before committing SP

05

Chakra / Ancient

Role:
Late-game types
Details:
Powerful but niche species pools

Tips: Save for mid-game team slots

06

Battle Attributes

Every Animon belongs to one of five Attribute groups that can be activated during battle for bonus effects at extra SP cost. These stack with elemental typing and define each Animon's combat role.

01

Furor

Role:
Offense
Details:
Boosts skill damage when activated

Tips: Pair with high-ATK Animon

02

Horrens

Role:
Control

05

Sereum

Role:

Tips: Combine with TP burst strategies

07

Holoken & Capture

The Holoken is your capture and exploration tool. In the field you can initiate a full battle to weaken and catch Animon, or attempt a quick-time capture sequence for faster results (timing-sensitive, especially on Switch).

  • Battle capture: safer for tough species - weaken first, then throw Holoken.
  • Quick capture: faster for low-level wild Animon if timing window is readable.
  • Infuse Holoken with party type powers to break environmental obstacles.
  • Select the correct type in your Holoken slot before exploring new routes.
08

Logos & Mythos

Talea splits into Logos (north, technological) and Mythos (south, traditional). After the tutorial you choose which region to begin in. The main story route is linear per region, but overworld exploration is largely open - revisit the other region anytime.

01

Logos (North)

Role:
Technology region
Details:
Industrial cities, tech-themed routes, modern Captains

Tips: Choose if you prefer structured early routes

02

Mythos (South)

Role:
Tradition region
Details:
Ancient towns, nature routes, folklore-themed Captains

Tips: Choose for classic JRPG exploration feel

09

Captain Routes

Captains are Talea's elite Lumen - equivalent to Gym Leaders. Defeating them advances Trey's rank and story. Each city Captain tests different team compositions; prepare type coverage and SP-efficient rotations before challenging.

Post-launch this section will expand with full Captain teams, recommended levels, and counter-strategies. For now, prioritize Scan data, balanced SP usage, and bench levels within 3-5 of your lead Animon.

01

Early Captains

First cities
Details:
Teams of 2-3 types; teach Scan and SP basics

Tips: Level party to route average +3 before challenging

02

Mid Captains

Role:
Regional hubs

Tips: Bring type coverage and one healer

03

Late Captains

Role:

Team Building & Stats

Carry six Animon, deploy up to four in battle. On level-up you manually allocate stat points across HP, Attack, Defense, Speed, and Skill - plan growth paths early rather than spreading evenly on every level.

  • Keep reserve Animon leveled via Pyrite stone disposal for bonus XP.
  • Use the XP storage device (unlocked mid-game) to boost benched party members.
  • Instant-defeat weak wild Animon in the field for fast grinding.
  • Build around SP efficiency: mix high-cost nukers with cheap utility moves.
  • Scan each new species four times in battle to fully unlock Dex entries.
11

Anispace

Anispace is a pocket dimension where captured Animon rest, train, and bond when not in your active party. Customize furniture and backgrounds, access PC storage boxes, and run passive training sessions to strengthen reserves.

Stronger bonds unlock better combat consistency. Early Adopter Bonus includes exclusive Anispace furniture - place it before long grinding sessions to keep morale systems active.

12

Fountain Crafting & Cooking

Rest at Fountains to craft items and cook meals that buff your Animon. Experimentation is encouraged but poorly documented - save before trying unknown ingredient combinations on hard mode routes.

  • Cook before Captain fights for temporary stat boosts.
  • Gather regional ingredients during exploration - don't skip breakable crates.
  • Craft healing and status items when shops are far from the next Captain.
13

Trading

Three trading methods help complete your collection: the Animon Trade Station (online listings), direct friend trades, and community exchange. Trading is essential for version-exclusive or rare Bilia variants and completing card sets.

14

Platform & Requirements

Available on Steam (Windows) and Nintendo Switch. Steam demo available before launch. Supports online trading and interactive multiplayer elements.
